As far as I can tell (and I'm sure it's no great revelation) my brain is threaded, and I mean with all the deadlock and concurrency issues that implies. You've got the main me which gets general veto power and which is mostly nice, and then you have all the background threads. I'm sure most of them I'm not aware of (until I suspect they stop working), but there are quite a few I know.

You have your basic ones the one that plays the song in the back of your head; the one monitoring you're general level of discomfort; the one listening to other people's conversations in case they are about you; etc. Then you get the more specialist ones like the ones which are your larp and roleplay characters, the strength of which varies depending on how recently you played them and what happened.

Currently for me Linte is the most active well loudest one, but that's mostly because he's been played a lot recently and he's perpetually happy and bouncey (and now worse since he became chibidized following a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] xanthipe).

Other specialist ones I have are:
- the guilt thread (currently personified as Mt. Jiminey - occasionally transformed into katamari form) constantly analysing my behaviour for reasons I should be guilty, and if failing to find any new ones instead parades random old reasons about my skull instead.
- the bloke thread. Which provides utterly random stereotypically male thoughts for me to be mortified/irritated by.
- the katamari thread (though only if I played it recently) which idly works out how to roll up my current surroundings.

Lastly I have the potential (but rarely actually useful) ones, the problem solving thread and the memory thread. The problem solving thread is actually very good at what it does, certainly infinitely more effective than the bit I accurately categorise at me is at any rate. It's just so inconsistent with it's timings, but always slow. Whether it's the funny response after the moment past, or the correct interpretation of a sentence in a conversation after it's ended, or the joke/obvious thing I didn't get the day before. If I could rely on it would be amazing, as it is I'll just have to live with finding out the solution to the problem or puzzle when I can't do anything about it. It would be fine if it didn't leave me waiting impatiently to chat to the person or get home to the game for hours afterwards.

The memory thread is also inconsistent which is a bigger problem. So many programs I have missed because it has reminded me as they finished, and so many objects have I forgotten until half way through a journey. My actual memory for specific events recalling situations or similar I've encountered is really really good I've discovered, nearly photographic at times. My memory thread for stuff that will be relevant later on, less reliable than British Rail in autumn.

Ultimately my brain is odd, at least it amuses me though. Well mostly.

I like your description. There's at least one thread either missing or misnamed that does the work of "insightful", too.

And, tragically, I LOLed at the katamari one. ;-)

Don't encourage him...

Not that he needs any encouraging anyway.

If I could draw it, I would.

In fact even though I can't draw I'm tempted to try.

I remember the day I had this realisation. It was in the back of the car on a bright sunny morning travelling down Bathwick Hill.

I don't remember when I had this realisation first, I do know that my memory thread has represented it to me several times when I wasn't in a position to LJ about it.
