When I got home last night I found out my Dad was involved in a major car accident. His car, a P reg BMW that hes looked after so carefully since he first bought it new, is a write-off. The shassy and suspension beams on the right hand side have moved about two inches towards the engine, and two inches up, moving the engine with them. The damage is irrepairable, though somehow he managed to drive the car home.

My Dad himself wasn't injured, hes shocked and been shaken up but nothing serious. His shoulders bothering him and hes going to see a doctor today. I can only hope this doesn't turn into another learn term problem, and that nothing else has been hurt or aggravated by the crash.

What happened was a car pulled out of side road on on the A36 hitting him side on. He couldn't try to avoid it as if he had he would have gone headlong into a lorry. My Dad has a witness on his side and the other driver has admitted fault, but the insurance won't pay more than the write-off value off the car, if they pay that. The car is worth a lot more to him than its write-off value, a difference of about £20,000 considering what it would cost to get an equivalent replacement.

I could have lost my dad last night, he told me himself. I don't know what I would have done if it had happened.

If any good comes out of it I hope it makes me a better more careful driver. Its good to be able to write this down I just wish this never happened.

Thanks both of you.

Not the nicest thing to come home to, I'm just waiting to find out what the doctor says now, though I'll have to wait till I get home.
