Yes I went glasses hunting today, as well as other things, to find replacements for my much abused (mostly due to larping) current pair. Though I'll still use the old ones for larping.

After going into several opticians and trying on countless pairs, I have some that I think suite me. I'm also getting a pair of prescription sunglasses for driving etc.

Total cost: £310, eep.

Glasses: £250
Frames: £160 (normally £205)
Lenses: £90 (£60 + £30 for scratch resistance and anti-glare coating)

Sunglasses: £60 (£120 halved as buying second pair)
Frames: £40
Lenses: £80

Eep, eep, eep.

Good grief! Where did you get those prices from? I just paid £150 for two pairs (along with anti-glare and tints), plus the eye test...

Let me guess, you went to Vision Express. I made the same mistake with my last set of glasses, although having the custom lenses on my sunglasses has been really good. Specsavers is fab and if you mention a special offer (like 2 for 1 or sunglasses free when you buy a normal pair), and they don't have it in the window, then you can usually get it. They just aren't allowed to advertise it all the time, because then it isn't a special offer and Advertising Standards regulators get iffy about it.

Hope that's helpful.

Actually I got them from Ellis & Kilpatrick, which are the opticians most of my families uses. There were cheaper frames, unfortunately the £205 were the only ones that suited me.
