Lots o' Stuff

I've got a bit to write about, good weekend etc, if this update looks really big I'll stick it behind cut tags. I'm running out of time so I'll finish this later. It's been updated now.
Watched Fumoffu on Friday. It's absolutely brilliant, had me in fits of laughter for hours, I still find myself chuckling about it when I think about it now. More later.
Also the new Sci-fi treasurer Jon has been really helpful, I'll write more later.
Played a D&D game Andy DM'ed on Saturday. It was a one off session (with vague possibilities of it turning into a full campaign) so he could have a go at DMing for the first time. It was really good, I mean really really good. The world he set it in is the world he has been creating as he's been writing his novel for the last 7 (?) years, and it really shows. It meant that not only was the whole world really detailed (we really wanted to go and visit most of it) but so were all the people in it. You could (and I did) have several minute conversation with any of the NPC's. There were so many stories waiting to be discovered so much of a world hinted at, that you couldn't help but want to find out more. I played a Paladin, something which approximately fitted with an organisation of knights in the game, and just from what we had been told about the world, I was able to work out exactly what my character would do, would have done, how he would behave etc in the setting. It's a good character which I'd like to play again some day, finally a role that justifies me not shutting up. Here hoping that good comments about his game will make it more likely to be developed into a full campaign or series of campaigns.
Went Larping on Sunday it's been a while since I last went and I really enjoyed myself. I monstered and had a lot of fun, and didn't spend very long at all doing nothing. James is a good GM which means next year is looking good so far. Assuming Blades runs next year of course, having found out that Hobbit didn't get the various forms in on Friday (the deadline). I've told him and James to get it sorted out today, get the forms done, and go to the society office and get things sorted, so that exists as an official society and gets budgets next year.
Speaking of Larp on a less doomed sounding note, I think I have a character that I would actually like to play in LT. The description is long so I'll definitely put it behind cut tags, if anyone has any opinions please let me know.
Skills: Pole arm, body dev, 7pt healing, literacy and numeracy.
Description: Simply a character with next to no ability to remember things. Who carries a little black book of people descriptions plus names (so he can remember who they are). Writes down everything what happens to him, and then promptly forgets the bits of paper randomly around the place (especially if it's plot). Is colour blind probably red/green (though maybe some other combination). Is a normal human (has living family members etc, though almost certainly doesn't remember). Will happily introduce himself to anyone, if only to find out who they are, if he knows them, why's he is where he currently is, what's happening, and chances are by this point in the conversation who they are again.
I'd like him to be a Pen Cethren member if possible, someone Fox (
almosthonest's character) invited in about two or three years ago, and he finally refound the invitation. I might even try and get him ready for the gathering this year (though I still need a name and costume). For definite he will remember the following: His name, eventually. Hitting things with a staff makes them less threatening eventually. The location of the little black book with everything he needs to remember in it. Things he will certainly forget: That he can heal. The names and positions of everyone else, especially faction command. What's just happened. Why he's here (wherever 'here' happens to be).
Plans: Get a charity lammy for the character saying: 'If lost please return to the Pen Cethren group, Unicorn faction' or similar. Pick up the horn blade (when it inevitably is left lying around) and proceed to wander around camp asking whose it is. Wander off in the middle of a muster looking confused. Find some way to avoid being tricked into petting Stormclaw every other minute (Sorry
drabbit) Other things of a similar style...
I was trying to work out something that basically allowed me the option to get as involved with things (fights, linears, etc) as much or as little as I wanted to, was easy but interesting to roleplay, didn't matter if I attended lots of events or one or two every other year, doesn't require any more skills, abilities or items than I start with, doesn't wear lots of armour (so I'd be more comfortable, I could run away faster), but isn't a one hit wonder, actually did something useful and allowed me to forget people's names IC. I think I've succeeded and I'm actually excited by the idea of getting to play the character too.
First finishing off yesterdays one, I'll just include the updated paragraphs:
Watched Full Metal Panic Fumoffu on Friday. It's absolutely brilliant, had me in fits of laughter for hours, I still find myself chuckling when I think about it now. More behind cut tags because of spoilers, lets just say in summary, I want to own it on DVD, I want one of those power suites that Sousake uses and I want the original manga. Anyway (note writing this spoiler resulting in much fits of trying not to laugh at work as I remembered things, yes it really was that funny):
So where to begin I think my personal favourite part of the whole series had to be Sagara's modified Bata-kun costume/power suit. Seeing this cute toy, with Sagara's scar on its cheek, wielding a gun, while shouting 'Fumo fumo' nearly had me in tears.
There really is too much to detail here, some absolutely classic one liners (some of which I can't quite remember, but I know had me laughing uncontrollably) and some inspired moments. I'm happy for people to fill in the holes in my memory in the comments. Just to mention a few briefly:
The inspired idea that the Bata-kun power suit only works with the voice changer on. Sagara's girl hunting method: money cage How to disable three enormous Martial Artists: guns, gas and using an unarmed grenade to distract them before knocking them out with a cheap shot, and repeatedly kicking them in the groin. Training a too nice rugby team to win using marine style training. Sagara's interpretation of the tattered remains of a love letter (he explodes his locker after realising its been tampered with). 'I've can't stop looking at you...', 'because I've been studying your weaknesses'.
Also the new Sci-fi treasurer Jon has been really helpful. So far he has gone to all the meetings for me, collected all the forms, gone to the trouble of filling them out (after we discussed our answers), has checked various things with the society office etc and has just generally be competent. Obviously once I'm back off placement I should be able to get a little more involved, but at least I know if for whatever reason I can't do anything there someone else in the committee who can be replied upon to get things done.
