I write [livejournal.com profile] almosthonest emails, asking if he is free to meet for lunch, like this:

Our intrepid explorer starts his journey, setting foot first in this strange land as he passes over the unique wiry foliage that surrounds it. At first he watches, studying carefully and then it appears he has spotted what he needs. Donning a hastily constructed disguise based upon on initial observations on those creatures that enter and leave this environment, he strides out into the area.

His next move is to casually slip on to one of the strange beast that regularly circuits this strange land. Noting his arrival seems to have gone unremarked, he breaths a quite sigh of relief. As the beasts travels taking him inexorably towards his destination he watches the strange behaviours of the local fauna. The notes how they wait patiently at various points, regularly and repeatedly perform the strange behaviour of looking at their arm just above the wrist. They seem to mostly look at their left arm, but there are a few different individuals that look at their right instead. Studying the structures they enter and exit from he realises that what he once thought were natural growths, appear to have been guided and designed by these creature, in fact look he can see one growing now, with the creatures scurrying round moulding and cutting and shaping its development, often using large creatures to help where they cannot work by themselves.

Suddenly it occurs to him, these strange creatures must have a community style nature like bees or ants, yes just like ants. So somewhere in those strange growths must be a queen, or perhaps they are several queens, wait, no, in all the structures they appear to be some commonality in design, so surely they must all be designed for their specific purpose. Then these large beasts must either be enslaved by the colony or in some kind of symbiotic relationship with it. Studying the one he rides again he can clearly see a different marked individual at the front that appears to be steering it. Yes looking around he sees yet more. Upon further observation he mentally divides the three groups his seen so far into their likely roles. The maroony red creatures seem to primarily deal with the tending of the enslaved beasts, the ones with the yellow topped heads deal with the growth of new structures, and the black and white ones seem to be the more general core of the workers, probably involved with the caring for the young, and the growth or collecting of the colony's food. But what about the soldiers?

He is interrupted from his reverie by a strange roar above, looking around he quickly he sees the various creatures staring skyward fixedly, and there he sees it a large flying creature circling the area. Clearly a predator seeing at the sudden alertness of the workers, yet still no sign of any soldier version of these creatures. The predator slowly travels off and the workers resume their activity.

As his journey continues he finally spots them, the soldiers, black in colour and guarding one of the colonies main entrances. He notes they appear to be monitoring and controlling the flow of workers and new enslaved beasts into the colony, clearly one of the functions of the black and white workers is to collect new servants for the colony.

And as the beast rounds a corner, he sees his goal the core of the colony consisting of red structures different in pattern to the rest of it. His excitement quickly turns to dread as he notes yet more soldiers on the entrance to the colonies core. Noting how the other workers hold up the strange growth which hangs from the base of their neck, he follows suit, holding up part of his disguise, suddenly wishing he had spent more time making it. Just as he fears all is about to go horribly wrong, the soldier waves the bus through barely paying any attention to the actions of the workers riding it. Clearly this colony is in danger if the protection is so lax, at least it explained the lack of response after the sighting of the predator. Either way it is not his concern his job is not to interfere only to observe and without that flaw his expedition would surely have ended abruptly.

Disembarking from the creature outside the core of the colony he slips inside noting the strangely pattered worker waiting at the entrance, and heads further in. He passes rows and rows of workers working diligently in little areas clearly tended to some strange off white objects, wondering if that's what they cultivate for food. Yet no sign of a larger queen, perhaps his initial theory is incorrect.

His unhappiness of misunderstanding these strange creatures passes as he quickly spots his target. Taking up position carefully behind one of the white objects he begins to observe the specimen and its interaction with its fellow workers. Suddenly the rest all get up and head towards an adjoining chamber leaving the specimen on his own. Watching carefully it appears to continue unabashed. Before long a worker brings in a variety of what he can only assume must be foods, and those in side the chamber gorge themselves, but do not finish it. As they leave, the specimen heads in and begins to feed, clearly he is of a lower status in the group, and must wait for the others to feed before he can. Spotting his chance, our explorer heads over to where the specimen had been working, and places his carefully disguised transmitter. It appears to be a white rectangle with the odd, and wobbly pattern scrawled across it. The pattern appears to look something like this:

LUNCH?

He leaves and quickly exits ready to study the colony more from afar.

Explanation: Treating the airbus site as some weird ecology investigated by someone like David Attenborough.

Among the other things I am currently working/have worked on because I felt randomly bored at work include: a large D&D campaign; a high level larp; a mini computer game of fighting monsters, finding treasure and leveling up (finished); a computer game based on the TL roleplaying system, which I have vague plans to make into a MORPG (in development); several TL character concepts and several T2 Magic decks.

I get bored often especially when writing my monthly log books for uni.

Yay for lunch!
