Week 3: Other than the location
Mar. 17th, 2011 08:59 pmI'm actually really enjoying this project. Obviously spending nights on my own in hotels* isn't fun, but the work, the work is good.
Automating this load test process has ended up being my favourite sort of thing to program. It's easily broken into small sections, each achievable in less than a day. Plus because it's just writing a series of small scripts and sticking all together, every time I finish something I can just run it to see if it works. As
almost_honest pointed out the most enjoyable jobs are those with regular frequent satisfaction from finishing something well**. Plus it also makes the day go quickly. I notice it's lunch time by the fact I'm hungry, and generally after lunch I don't tend to notice the time again until about 4:30!
I'd have liked to get the results gathering part of it all finished before going away for the weekend for Minami***, but I'm actually looking forward to tackling the remaining bugs and making the necessary extensions next Tuesday!
Now to enjoy food I made and cooked for myself for a change, and wait to Rachael to get back from her costume session.
*I stayed Monday night in the hotel from the first half of the first week, and the Wednesday night in the B&B from the second half of the first week. So accommodation has been nice. Tuesday I drove home getting back at 7:30ish, today I left a little earlier and made it back for 7:00ish. Not too bad, not a journey I'd want to do both ways each day.
**That regular reward feedback is probably why I find games where I can just do one more bit so damn addictive.
***Yay, more of my free time spent in hotels... still I'm looking forward to seeing people. It would have been nice to not have had to be Basingstoke and actually got a costume made for this convention, but I still have a fortnight left till Kitacon.
