Long Weekend

I'm now back at work today after my nice long weekend. I went up to spend the last four days at P's Mum's house in Oxford meeting up with P who'd gone up a few days before hand.

It was good fun and I feel surprisingly at home there. It amuses me greatly that her Mum makes me the figure of responsibility when I'm there. Any instructions are given to me first. I have a few ideas why that might be, but I won't go into them here.

What did I do? Well I went Ice skating with P and her youngest sister on Saturday (as her sister had just turned 14 of Friday). Seeing as this was only the second time I'd been ice skating (the first being a brief edge hugging session when I was about 13) and that I've never tried skating and rollerblading I got off to a slow shaky start. By the end I was doing alright, though my seeming inability to maintain my balance had meant I expended a lot of energy just trying to stay upright, and was pretty tired by the end.

However I never fell over once. This has entirely to do with the fact I was holding on to P for support most of the time. How I never pulled her over with all the times I completely lost my balance I’ll never know and I’m pretty sure she doesn’t know how she didn’t fall over either.

I made the deliciously rich chocolate fudge layer cake again as I’d forgot to bring the one I’d made at home to Oxford with me. Sticking the recipe on my LJ (hint) was a really handy idea. We had 8inch cake tins this time which worked better as the greater surface area meant the fudge wasn’t quite so thick. I really recommend that anyone who is of the cake making inclination make it at some point. It’s very easy to do (I can do it) and tastes sooo good.

The other thing I did was go into Oxford and attempted that horror of horrors shoe shopping. I actually found a pair of shoes that seem to fit which means I’m safe for a good year or two. Ironically, I found the shoes in a Barrets. I feel mocked.

I also took the opportunity to meet up with my friend Mike. He is as ever the same, continuously unchanging and clearly was designed to be a student at Oxford. I got to meet his fiancée Sarah again, which was handy seeing as I’d completely forgotten what she was like.

The only annoyance of the weekend was having to rely on public transport reminding me how glad I am to have my car. Obviously with the recent accident I couldn’t really drive to Oxford especially considering how the weather had been just before the weekend.

A good relaxing long weekend. I can’t wait for my next planned holiday over Easter.
