Seems to be a theme that fits a few things at the moment:

Getting the lounge-dining room decorated for one (and the house as a whole for another). We've spent something like 7 days decorating over part of the Christmas break and two weekends and aren't there yet. As always it's the preparation that takes the most time, as while we had the walls re-plastered the ceiling didn't really need it done. Which of course means it needs to be washed, filled and sanded before it can be painted, and there's no easy way to do those things when working above your head. Still hopefully one final painting effort this Saturday and we'll actually be able to unpack the sofa we've had delivered for a week, and ordered over a month ago, now!

Then there's my buying a car. Or to date my failing to buy myself a car, I've looked at a couple of options so far and not really been impressed. What I really need to do is just go visit some showrooms, and look at and drive a few cars until I get one a like. Just need the time to do that, and ideally the time for my Dad to come help, or at least drive me to the places.

Finally there was my uncle's test results, though we now have some of those. He'd been suffering from repeated cases of severe pleurisy, along with his joints hand and feet swelling up a lot. Much convincing by my dad - over the course of about two years- finally got my uncle to get himself checked. They found a lump on his kidney (could be a cyst, could be a tumour - we're still awaiting those results) and then later found a mass on his lungs. The mass while not showing up on x-rays (which was a hopeful indication it wasn't cancerous) was the size of a 2 litre bottle. My uncle is about my height and kind of skinny so I find it hard to imagine him having a lump that size in his chest. He had the operation on the 7th December at the BRI. It thankfully went well and faster than expected, they didn't have to take any lung away, and managed to remove the whole mass intact. Early this week we finally got the results back, it was a fibroma (a benign tumour) though the very centre did contain some precancerous cells. Since the operation he's been understandably in a lot of pain (they went in through the side of his rib cage), but he looks so much better and has much more colour than he did before. They did say that if he hadn't the operation the pressure of the growing mass on his heart would almost certainly have killed him. So just waiting and hoping on the results on the kidney lump, but it going to take a while yet. Still good news in these things is so much better than bad!

There have been a few other irritations recently, though nothing particularly bad, beyond the cold weather making [livejournal.com profile] purplegirl23's skin worse. We had a leak from out hot water tank, sometime in the last few of days which we only spotted yesterday as it was making a mark in [livejournal.com profile] valient_starr's bedroom. Rachael and I don't tend to intrude much, and Dan tends to get back late and tired so didn't spot it. Plumber came and fixed it today, said it was probably a faulty elbow bend. The thing is on the one hand the plumber has been very good especially when it comes to coming out on short notice or odd hours to repair things. On the other hand considering this is a brand new central heating system we've had more than an expected number of leaks. He's good at not over tightening things, just could work more on not under tightening things quite so often.

Other than that have started a new project at work, doing the test designing and managing some graduates. Have about 3 days left out of the 2.5 weeks to learn everything the person I'm replacing knows (as he's leaving the company to more to Bournemouth as his girlfriend dislikes living in Bristol). It should be ok, but these last few days have been a lot of extreme programming (2 people 1 computer), and I'm not going to know how prepared I am really until he's gone. Still I should be fine, he's only got about 6 weeks more experience on the project than I'll have when I fully take over.
