Yes last night was the first session of Joe's new BESM campaign. Its a semi-serious space opera which was originally going to be mech orientated due to preferences of those who were initially expressed interest but none of the people who ended up playing has one.
The plot is: In a universe of peace ruled by a single government a rebel force, who disagree with the current establishment, shatters reality bringing the heroes of the people minds (anime characters) to fight against the government. We get all the bonuses of being a main character in an anime series (harder to kill, if it looks good it will probably work etc) but so do a lot of our opponents. We're also have to be careful; Joe will heavily favour anime characters he likes, so we should never ever get with in a hundred thousand miles of Vash the Stampede.
Our team consists of Ailsa's mopy Bishi swordsman, military trained from a young age, Neil's gun bunny (I think thats an appropriate description), Tim's demon thing, and my shaolin monk (typical anime martial artists).
My monk is called Gin Peng this is a rearrangement of the japanese word for penguin, pengin. He's a typical anime martial artist complete with silly shouty vocals, which I will put up correctly when I remember them, but for now its approximately:
For the big energy attack:
kuu ryu no ten ooa lashi something hai
or
sky dragon of heaven raging storm lightening strike
and for the shield, special block:
kai ryu no ten something something something something
or
sea dragon of heaven calm water counter attack
The session was fun I spent most of the time carrying Ailsa or Neils characters as I could move a lot faster than them. The cliff hanger leaves us after we've just been swallowed up by a black wall accompanied by massive base 'bafums'...
