Dissapointment

So for those who don't read purplegirl23's LJ, today she was taken off the light treatment after 19 doses (out of the intended 30ish), because it wasn't really working. While it had made some difference, it didn't make the level of difference it should if it was working, and her skin was starting to get worse. She's been ordered by the doctors to take a week off, while her skin is treated daily at the hospital and recovers from an infection that's taken hold.

It's been a real disappointment, I had hoped she'd been in the 50% who the light treatment makes better. The next options are drugs with some nasty potential side affects, and that require some regular checks to monitor.

In some ways I think purplegirl23's taken it better than I have.

Still I'll do what ever needs to be done to make and keep her well. I'm just glad I'm so good at calming her and soothing her. It means I can actually make a difference when she's suffering, just wish I could stop the suffering from occurring in the first place.

I wish I could too - but I'm sure just knowing that you're there is helping her immensely, as well of course as all the hugs and love you provide.

Sometimes, there is nothing you can do to stop the suffering, and it's on those occasions that you don't focus on what you can't do, but you focus on what you can do to help :-)

(is probably preaching to the choir, but thought I'd chip in anyway).

It doesn't make it any less frustrating from your point of view that the suffering continues, but as long as you don't let it drag either of you down into the deep dark pit of despair, then all is good.

in any case, it makes the good times feel so much better :-)
