Not making as good a use of time this January as I would like, and I think a lack of energy is to blame. To many weekends waking up late, leaves me less time to get done all the things I'd like, which ultimately results in my not getting as much done as I'd hope. The end result has been not going larping the last couple of weekends, largely so I can spend the time on Sunday trying to get things done. Though today was more a feeling a bit under the weather, and deciding better to get better than risk getting worse.

I've got a few goals for the first quarter of the year:
1) Get my loft floored (including strengthening the current beams first). This is going to take a reasonable amount of time, I think there's several hundred feet of beams to go down. This would allow me to move Dan's stuff into the loft, freeing up space for another lodger
potentially, and also move my remaining possessions (largely books) up from my parents. Giving me somewhere to store them while I unpack and sort things.
2) Help [livejournal.com profile] purplegirl23 with her diet. Which I'm basically administrating, we're just going for a fairly simple calorie counting approach with Rachael simple eating less each day. It's added on a fair bit of time to meal time preparations with the extra weighing of the food and calculations. Seems to be working though. I'm using a small set of website to get calorie values for anything without a value on the packaging, however they occasionally disagree
on things (or offer things only in unhelpful quantities) so if anyone has any reliable recommendations please let me know.
3) Visit someone, or having people around, one evening a week. This I think I'm managing, and is good cause it helps to alleviate the occasionally isolated feelings I've been having (though actually going to the pub after games would also be a good idea). It takes a fair bit of time to organise, and some wrangling on occasion, but is always worth the effort.
4) Sort through my finances. I've been through most of last year working out where all the money went, but now Rachael is working I need to sit down and make some budgets. Especially if I want to save to be able to do more things on the house.
5) Make time for cosplay. I need to work out when I can do some costume making, and put the effort into make it happen. I've got a growing list of costumes I'd like to make, and I just need to get down and start doing them. Not entirely sure when yet though. My evenings
tend to be a mix of cooking, chores, visiting people/gaming/reading. I want to get to a point where I can easily do some costume stuff for an hour instead of one of the lost three, but without having to sacrifice most of the lounge-dining room to do it. I'm thinking the front
bedroom might end up being the place to do this, with a little rearranging of Dan's stuff, so it's neater.

I also need to make sure I make time to do the time consuming chores like cleaning the car, or giving the oven a thorough clean, as well as keeping a good eye on the best times to do things to the garden. I've got hedge trimmings to clear, plants to uproot from the edge of the
driving, and a hedge and gardens to maintain.

I don't want to give up any hobbies, in fact I want to be doing some table top gaming regularly as well (and maybe squeeze in the odd magic evening). So while I got better at making use of my time, I think I've really got to break this sleeping in on weekends plan. If I could start getting better at waking up and leaving for work in the mornings, that would probably get me some more usable time in the evenings.

Work is going fine, I had a very positive appraisal, but I'm currently in between projects doing training courses. Learning C#/.net which is largely like a lot of the other languages I've used. Still after a couple of years supporting a 15 year old system written in Openroad on
an Ingres database I still find it odd how much IDE's do for you these days. They tend to put together the bulk of the structure of the code for you. It's good though, means you can spend time designing things well, rather than trying to remember all the syntax.

However it does look like I might have to do about a months work living away in North London (Hendon). We've got some performance tests that need to be done on site to do for the project I was on the test team for last year. Effectively the customer hasn't really got the money to pay for someone to do the performance tests, and have been trying to wrangle us into doing it as part of the contract, we've of course been trying to avoid doing any extra work for free. The end result is a bit of performance testing done using Q-test that does appear to in the contract. No one at my company has any experience with it, and considering my experience running the FATs in front of the customer I'm an obvious choice. Still if I end up spending Sunday evening till Friday afternoon living in a hotel, I'll make sure to take the fabric (and books) with me and get as much of that done while I have less distractions. At the moment looks like it'll be end of February/March but I'll find out when the details once they are
actually known.
