Xmen 3 and other things
The film was enjoyable, I think I liked it better than the last one, because the plot driven forgetfulness of mutants that they can say for example freeze even significant quantities of water very quickly was noticeably absent. I think I enjoyed the first one most of all, but such is the way with trilogies (which are a different animal from films in three parts a discussion for another time).
However due to that trend of movie watching, which I'm sure I've inherited from my Dad and all my uncles, here's my list of immediate niggles with the film:
Lazy mutants - outside of the main cast of characters and about four noticeable exceptions, there were very few proper mutants. Most of the mutants had no effort put into them at all not even any make up, and based upon watching them in action the majorities of their powers consisted of jumping and dieing.
Game bodies - I'm sure at some points there were bodies littering the place, sadly for the sake of limited hardware memory bodies have to fade away in to unrealistic nothingness. Of course it's a film not a game, maybe they couldn't afford the bodies by that point.
And the most blatant:
Day to night, outdoor filming to indoor set, in the space of a change in shot. Are they ever going to stop doing that, the number of films that jump from middle of the afternoon to proper night in less than a second is silly, and these days technologically much less justifiable. At one point is was a very clever and easy way to swap from outdoor filming to that done on the set, a night scene with strong lighting that keeps the bits of the stage they don't want you to see in darkness, these days surely there are better ways?
On a totally seperate note I got to assist
drabbit with some ideas for his next larp, which is a consistenly a lot of fun and an amusing way to pass some time. I await the actual larp with glee, and an evil grin.
