As one who has been involved in two accidents that in all honesty were my fault, I can sympathise with how you are feeling. One thing that might be of interest is that after my second accident (where I effectively wrote off my green renault), my insurance premium actually went DOWN! Yes, it's true, the insurance company actually quoted me a lower insurance premium. Pity I was never to drive the car again!! From the speed which you must have been travelling up bathwick hill (ie not much) I fail to believe that you caused 1,000 pounds worth of damage to his car!! I have a feeling he is trying it on as you are a young, inexperienced driver. Also, from the way you have written it (this may be completely accidental), but it sounds like he was looking for an accident as well. However, I can't really comment, as I haven't seen either car, nor did I see the accident.
However, accidents happen. The main thing is to learn from it. From this particular one, you can learn that there are some truly appalling drivers around who wobble about all over the place in front of you, without looking in their mirrors, then expect the world to revolve around them as they decide that they want to turn, and sod everyone else!! Oh, and if you are ever driving round past sainsburys from the petrol station side to the town centre side, make sure you watch for people cutting you up. It happens all too often.
You aren't a bad driver. two accidents in 10,000 for a new driver (one of which happened really slowly in a car park) is not a bad record. I know someone who wrote off a new peugout by driving into the back of a parked Milk float. He had also rolled a Citreon, with passengers in the car. Now he was a bad driver!! :-) take heart that you are much, much better than him!
