About the house - sounds to me like someone who's parents have infused him with an idea despite the fact they know nothing about the situation in Bath. (I'm a little confused why he can't see what's left already....surely that's the definition of "left"?)
A thought for Perdita is that houses come onto the market all the time, and the mad panic at this time of year is largely artificial. So there's never a need to panic about the lack of houses.
A thought for you is that it's far better to know you have the damn house sorted out. Go and lean on this guy, or find a replacement. (Good "confrontational" approach - appeal to his better nature on Perdita's behalf. Avoids stubborness kicking in.)
