Firstly, why have I never met a friendly post office clerk?
Secondly, on house-hunting. I know of a few people who have historically done all their house-hunting in June and July through agencies (e.g. Mead pretty much every year since our second year). The current House of Croquet was only organised in August 2003, and all in all it's in very good shape (when you discount for the current inhabitants being either morons or overworked and expecting the Magic Cleaning Fairy, i.e. myself and erindellr to clean everything). It was, therefore, perfectly doable last year.
There are, however, two additional factors to consider:
1.) The University has taken in yet again more students this year and hence is also spewing all of them into next year's housing market.

2.) Agencies are fucking expensive.
Tell them to go for the house.
