I would go with one or two extremes - either severely disshevelled and verging on drunk all the time, temper is a hair trigger and very overly emotional, completely and utterly given over to his grief and unable to think of anything else...
...Or the exquisitally dressed, emotional brickhouse whose only way of expressing himself is through icy sarcasm or a quirk of his eyebrows and in complete denial over the death of his sister.
In both cases, the costume is the same - waistcoat, tails, shirt, breeches - just in differing states of repair?
