I found the story more engaging for one, whether or not that was because the film was more engaging I'm not entirely sure.
A part of it was definitely being wowed by the creature affects.
Lastly the ending felt more real, where as the ending of Hellboy left me sort of going, 'Ooh reborn God... wait was that it'.
I think I just found the comedy moments funnier, the actions scenes more sastisfying, etc.
I'll try and come up with a more coherent response.
