The Cheek of that University!

Did anyone else recieved a letter from a certain south west university asking you to donate to their alumni fund?

With handy tick boxes offering options of pledging £50, £300, £1000 or a preferred sum (with quite a large entry box.

Which had the line "Although you graduated only recently, and might not yet be in a position to help, if you are able to contribute to the fund, I should be particularly grateful".

And statements about how you should be grateful for your time at university to the institution, and how they are such a poor unfortunate university too new to have 'accumulated endowments over the centuries' and without 'huge benefactions' which helped launch other places.

Gah, and Bah I say. That letter will go with all the other crap they've sent over the years on the fire to burn.

Over the centuries? LOL My university had several endowments, scholarships for all levels of need, and was founded in 1879. I think Bath has issues.

I'm shocked. And [livejournal.com profile] same_difference, as your long-term friend, I hope you know I'm here for you to express your outrage and indignation to. And should you wish to show your appreciation of my support, I've attached a handy form and direct debit instruction to aid you in easily making any contributions you feel are sufficient to express your gratitude.

When I got mine last year I had a lovely chat with the current student person they had caling round people. Mostly about Mr Tugendhat's awesome name (unfortunately pronounced Tugneoff, or somthing like that) and the fact that Glynes is the the mostl highly paid VC in Britain. And my academic asperations, which the university was doing its level best to ensure will never pay.
